Mission
The purpose of training in Martial Arts has changed for me quite a bit since 1985. Back then, I was drawn to it from the false mystical aspect that was portrayed in the movies. Not until I stepped into my first dojo, did I realize that it was not quite what I had seen on the big screen. To this day, I'm fortunate to have been exposed to true Martial Arts. For many years, my purpose for training had been gearing up and brawling for hours at a time, and then healing for days afterward. So, after 10 years of fighting, whether it was point fighting or full contact fighting, I had made the decision to stop training. Fortunately, shortly after that, I met my primary instructor. My purpose for training in the martial arts began to change. I realized there was more to martial arts than what I had been doing for the past 10 years. For example, training women and children, who I believed had no business in martial arts. I learned that anyone who has the desire and puts forth the effort, can become an excellent martial artist. In this day and age, I believe they need it more than most because of the fact that they are so often targeted by predators. Now I train mostly for my students and my own health. I truly enjoy watching people grow mentally and physically while becoming martial artists themselves. I'm indebted to all of the students who train at my dojo. For entrusting me with training them, to the best of my ability and alllowing me to pass on to them what I have learned over the years. I do my best trying to expose them to people who I feel are some of the best martial artists in the world. Whether it is in a semi-private class or a large seminar. In closing, an instructors true purpose should be teaching the student true martial arts and real self defense that will work for them and not give them a false sense of security with a lot of mystical drivel. Those are just things that take longer to learn, and are meant to just keep the money rolling in. I believe that one should be true to oneself and the art that you choose to train in.
I would personally like to thank everyone that has visited this site. I hope you have gained something positive along the way.
